From the Mountain to the Beach
Today we arrived at the pacific ocean, at Playa Tamarindo.
We spent a nice but cold time in Monteverde. Monteverde is at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level, has a cloud forest and the wind was constantly blowing. The temperature was around 10 degrees Celsius in the morning, so not really shorts and t-shirt weather.
Yesterday we had a tight schedule for our day. At 7 in the morning we headed off to the cloud forest for a four hour walk. On this walk we saw of course a lot of birds a tarantula and some pizotes. Pizotes are little animals who look like brown raccoons and are about as as the raccoons. One of the pizotes stole the lunch of a woman who was sitting on a bench and had her food in a plastic bag on the floor.
At Monteverde lives a bird called Quezal. For the Mayas and Aztecs the Quezal was called the god of the air. The Quezal has long tail feathers but as our guide told us only for a certain time. At the end of our tour I asked our guide if there are any in the park and so we went of to look for them. After 10 minutes walk we came to a place with an avocado tree where they often are because they like avocados. After a quick search with the telescope our guide found one but really far away and he ad turned his back on us. Through the telescope it was only a blue ball on a tree. After about 5 minutes a Quezal landed really close on a tree and we could look at him without the telescope. His long feathers where flying in the wind and he didn’t cared for us at all. This was really beautiful.
In the afternoon we went to an other part of the forest to walk on some hanging bridges. This tour was without a guide so we didn’t saw a lot of animals.
Today we drove on dirt road from Monteverde to the Panamericana. The Panamericana is the main highway through the country. Even though it has only one lane in each direction. We ate lunch at Playa Ocotal. Form Ocotal an other dirt road took us to Tamarindo. The weather here is totally different then the weather in Monteverde ant the other places we have been to in the last one and a half weeks. It is dry and really hot so I heading off now to the pool.
